Jacksons Early Childhood:
Thomas Jackson was born January 21, 1824 in Clarksburg, Harrison County Virginia, which is now currently known as West Virginia. Jackson had a different childhood growing up. Both of his parents died at a young age and in result he and his sibiligings were taken in by his Grandmother. This became difficult because once she passed Jacksons various relatives had to take in him and his siblings. One relative that changed his life was his bachelor Uncle Cummings who took him in from the age of 7 till he left for his education at West Point.[1] Becoming a Cadet: On June 20, 1862 Jackson joined West Point at the age of 19. Jacksons Uncle Cummings, helped him achieve the passion he had for the military. Uncle Cummings made Jackson into the man he was by teaching him to be kind, trustworthy, and reliable. Not only did his Uncle help bring out these characteristics in him but, he helped him receive the best education at West Point. [2] West Point was a difficult school for Jackson but he was able to gain his academic studies in philosophy while training to be in the military. Jackson was given the nickname "The General" at West Point because he was known for his determination. [3] His study skills helped him become successful in school. Because of his dedication in his study habits he became a Legend at West Point. [4] Jacksons Remembrance and Battles fought: Jackson was a veteran in the Mexican War from (1846-1848), was a Confederate general under Robert E. Lee in the American Civil War (1861-1865), fought in the First and Second Battle of Manassas in 1861, Battle of Fredericksburg, took part in the Battle of Chancellorsville in 1863, and most importantly he led the Cadets to March to the battle of New Market.[5] His remembrance was that served ten years of teaching at VMI and two years as Confederate Officer. In these years people learned that he was a great leader and a pour teacher. [6] Stonewall Jackson died due to getting shot by one of his own men on May 15, 1863. [7] |

[8] Others viewed his personality as shy but his smile attracted others to him. He was known for wearing his VMI cap (insert cap picture) he wore his hat tilted so that he had to raise his chin when he spoke to others. And he was known for always sucking on his favorite fruit which was lemons. |
